Today’s Quote

This is what you shall do:
love the earth and the sun and the animals,
despise riches,
give alms to everyone that asks,
stand up for the stupid and crazy,
devote your income and labor to others,
hate tyrants, argue not concerning god,
have patience and indulgence toward the people,
go freely with powerful uneducated persons
and with the young and the mother of families,
re-examine all you have been told at school
or church or in any book,
dismiss whatever insults your own soul…

~ Walt Whitman ~

  2. From one of the formative works of my life. Whitman came along for me at a crucial point in my life, and changed it forever.

      • Very much so. His work helped form a desire to be a poet into an effort to be one, and gave me spiritual material to run with, as well. i would class a good part of his work as shamanic in nature if not in literal subject matter.

      • Sounds like a wonderful influence. I’m more familiar with him because of his work during the Civil War. Hope you are well; sending blessings…

      • I am well — happy in my new home, and on the first purely joyous adventure I’ve had in over a year.
